a few words from phil king
I’m really thrilled about the “Bless My Soul” EP and then the full length album coming next year. This album carries so much of my personal history in music, friendships and pursuing Jesus within. Each song and guest artist has a deep story behind, and I know the richness of this will bless many people who listen. I just have to say too, this is by FAR the hardest and longest I’ve ever worked on a single project. So to see the songs doing so well already and anticipating the impact they will have in the future is definitely very exciting for me as an artist! I know there’s something for everyone on the “Bless My Soul” EP and I can’t wait for everyone to listen and draw nearer to Jesus and the promises of His word through it!

King is the launch artist for newly formed label, Euphonic City, co-founded by two of his long-time mentors and friends, Paul Wright and Jennie Lee Riddle. He has been working on his fifth record which is a timely and rich gathering of songs for his Euphonic City debut. This release of Phil King will begin with 5 singles, culminating with a 14 track album featuring many of his family friends.
In his early 20’s he became the worship leader at Christ for the Nations in Dallas, TX before taking a position as a worship pastor at Gateway Church. Read the story and listen to the song, “My Sin, My Sin” by Phil King and Lindell Cooley
the story and the study
Have you ever had those moments in life when everything just comes together in a special way with people who mean a lot to you? Well, this song is full of those moments. It's connected to some very important people in my life, and I'd love to share its backstory with you.
‘My Sin, My Sin’ began as a very simple chorus that I wrote in response to a very simple thought: The Son of God and Man, Jesus, did not wait until the cross, burial and resurrection to start forgiving sins.
Throughout the Bible, we find numerous instances where Jesus, prior to the crucifixion, forgives people of their sins. Think about that… Jesus literally COULD NOT WAIT to start forgiving our sins! It’s almost like that parent that has such an enormous surprise gift for their child that they eventually break and want to give it to them early, way before their child’s actual birthday.
What an amazing God we serve. He is determined to forgive us, regardless of what we have done. As I meditated on these things, this song just poured right out. After allowing it to simmer for a while, I shared it with my dear friend and master songsmith, Jennie Lee Riddle who put all the right bows on it that it needed. Thank you Jennie, you’re amazing and you took this song right where it needed to go!
Another deeply meaningful aspect of this song are the guest vocalists who sang on it. Here’s the backstory so you can fully appreciate it too: In the late 1990’s, God began pouring out His Spirit beautifully all over the world. The work and moving of His Spirit touched people and places both near and far, powerfully moving in regions like Buenos Aires in Argentina, the Toronto area in Ontario, Canada, and Pensacola, Florida.
In Pensacola, Florida, many saw God’s power at work, confessed faith in Jesus, and repented of their sins. One key figure at the forefront of the Pensacola movement was Pastor Lindell Cooley. He was the worship leader at the center of this outpouring in Pensacola, known as the “Brownsville Revival.” It’s truly an honor to have Lindell as both a dear friend and mentor.
He is someone that knows and has seen over and over again the forgiveness of sins in Jesus’ name. So, having him as a guest on this song was a true gift and totally the right fit, given the song's message. One thing I love about Pastor Lindell to this day, is how excited he gets when people turn from sin and turn to Jesus. If angels rejoice when one sinner repents, like Jesus said, shouldn’t we also?
Pastor Lindell has also personally had more of an impact on how and why I worship Jesus the way that I do more than anyone else in my life. I love you Pastor Lindell! SO honored you’re joining me on this song.
And another wonderful treat and huge honor was that my Mom happened to be there the day Pastor Lindell and I recorded this song and so she also jumped in the vocal booth and joined us! That was a very fun and special day. I’ve been bragging about how my Mom can sing to everyone for years, so it’s a real treat to finally have her on something with me. And as you all know, every boy LOVES his Momma! She is the woman who taught me how to sing, and trained me to be sensitive and aware of God’s Presence. I love you so much Mom, you are so deserving of much honor! Thank you for raising me to love Jesus!
So as you can see, this particular song and recording holds a lot of weight for me personally in a lot of different ways— I feel like it’s more than a song, but it’s a lot of my life’s history and why I do what I do. And the best part is it is totally centered on the GOSPEL.
I want to express my deep appreciation to Jennie for her invaluable contribution to this song – I truly cherish it. And thank you Pastor Lindell for your deep understanding of God’s presence and for adding your voice to the song. Mom, thank you for raising me to love Jesus and to be like an arrow aimed right at Jesus. I love you! And thank You Jesus for forgiving me, making me clean and making me more a little bit like You every single day. We love YOU Jesus!
~Phil King
my sin, my sin lyrics
Verse 1
Why do I cherish this Jesus
In a world that’s
Mocking His name?
Why would I risk persecution?
I’ll tell you why today.
Chorus
My sin, my sin He forgave
The mountainous debt He erased
He spoke, I’m free
I’m healed, I’m clean
My sin, my sin He forgave
Verse 2
My hands, in spite of their toilin'
Could not erase the shame
But Jesus took on my burden
And washed all my guilt away
Bridge
He is a fountain of goodness
He is a river of grace
He’s undeniably merciful
And I’ll never ever be the same
Behold the Lamb of Salvation
The remedy for every hurt
He carries us all
On His shoulders
And bears the whole
Weight of the world
He bears the whole
Weight of the world
Tag 1
Grace, grace, God's grace
Grace that will pardon
And cleanse within
Grace, grace, God's grace
Grace that is greater than all, all my sin!

“Upside down”
the story by cliff preston
It has been said throughout history that the specific issues of the times were the “worst they have ever been.” I can remember hearing my daddy say, “The world has gone crazy.” This was in the same breath of him saying the same thing about his father.
The reality of what history tells us is that man will never stop finding ways to fall deeper into depravity. This thought alone can cause despair. In fact, we have seen this play out in the explosion of mental health crisis’ and the addiction and suicide crisis’ rising greater still.
Our great Hope is that the thought of the depravity of man left to his own devices doesn’t have to operate on it’s on. We know of a Savior who has overcome the world. That’s right. He has overcome the world and the version of the world that we do not know yet that is worse than this one.
When I was younger I used to be concerned about raising my kids in this day and age. I still give ample head space to the way that I can keep my children safe and raise them in a way that honors our Father. I rest in the knowledge that even when our world can get crazy, Upside Down if you will, God does not cease to be God in those moments.
I rest in the understanding that the way up is down. It’s not looking sideways at the Joneses. The way home is down, at Jesus’ feet.
No matter how wild the world may get, He will remain God…especially in the Upside Down.
upside down lyrics
Verse 1
Walk up to the newsstand
Everything I’m reading
Tells me that the world
Is breaking down
Verse 2
Chaos surrounding
It could crush and defeat me
Oh but Father I believe
You hear me now
Pre Chorus
So, Lord, come quickly!
Chorus 1
Even through the fire
Even through the heartache
Even though the war
Is all around me
Even through the tears
Even through the shaking
Even though this restless
Heart is breaking
My world is crashing all around
And I’m on the ground
But You are still God
Even in the upside down.
Verse 3
I lift my eyes from the downfall
And in Your promise
I can stand tall
And You will be the
Hope that lights my way
Bridge
Oh, come quickly!
Turn this darkness into light
Oh, come quickly!
You set all things right
upside down

Cliff Preston Bio
“I try to see people through the lens of what God has brought me through and saved me from. I believe that if God can love and use even me, he can love and use anyone.”
It’s been said that what sets Cliff Preston apart is his raw authenticity and compassion. Preston’s music ministry began in 2002 as he began traveling with bands to bring awareness to the love of Jesus as well as the mental health crisis. With his father being a professional counselor and pastor, he was very aware of the effect that mental health was having on the generation, as well as the ultimate source of wellness - the finished work of the cross. He has spent the following twenty years traveling the country writing songs, leading worship, preaching, and even opening businesses geared towards Christ-centered clinical mental healthcare.
Cliff is proud to call Smackover, Arkansas his hometown. He is even prouder of God’s faithfulness through his marriage with his wife Leslie, and the wisdom God provides as they raise their daughter Kannyn (12), and their two sons Murphy (10) and Campbell (2).
Cliff brings over two decades of ministry experience and business development to his partnership with People & Songs. In that time, he has written songs for artists including Newsong, JJ Weeks, Carrolton and more. He has shared the stage with artists such as MercyMe, Jeremy Camp, and Natalie Grant among others. All while opening and building companies that develop platforms to display Christ to a lost and hurting world.
Cliff is excited for what is to come as he joins forces with this diverse team of artists, worship leaders, and writers for the glory of God.

Thank You For What You've Done By Cliff Preston and Jonathan Lee McElhenny
Read the Story and Listen to the song, “Thank You For What You’ve Done.”
A FEW WORDS FROM CLIFF PRESTON
The first time I heard this song was in a room with 20 strangers. We sang our hearts out. I knew it was special. In a short time those 20 strangers turned into dear friends. I have a voice memo recording of us all singing it together. I can pick out most of the distinct voices as I listen to the music play. If I close my eyes, I can remember the night and where I was sitting.
We can get so busy and overwhelmed that we end up only calling out to God when we feel that we need something. My encouragement to us all is to take a moment, slow down and thank Him for His finished work; the answer to every question, hurt, fear and heartache. We need Jesus just as much in our winning as we do in our wrestling.
I needed to thank Him the night I sang this song with my friends. We weren’t calling out to Jesus with our list of to-do’s that evening. We were thanking Him for what He’s done. Friend, wherever you are today, stop and thank Him for what He’s done.
A FEW WORDS FROM JONATHAN LEE MCELHENNY
When you are writing a song, you are trying to tackle and unpack the big idea into three to five minutes of time. And, if trying to express how very grateful I am for the things that Christ has done for me, it is impossibly inadequate. It will take a life-time. But our ever-gracious God is mercifully, abundantly pleased to inhabit the moments that, strung together, make up a life-time of relationship.
There is nothing clever about the lyrics “Thank you for the cross, thank you for the blood.” It’s been done before and will probably be done again. It is so common and so basic to every one of us. We are sinners in desperate need of a Saviour. But JESUS! Oh, what a Saviour! With every iteration, it will never get old for as long as the never-ending Story is told.
I pray that this song gives the chance to humbly and joyfully pour out gratitude to the Lord and just say, “Lord, I am so thankful for who you are and what you have done.”
A FEW WORDS FROM JORDAN MERRITT
This song is so special to me because it births gratitude in our hearts! It’s so easy for us to be cognizant of what Jesus did for us on the cross without it moving our hearts. I pray that the Holy Spirit uses this song to well up a deeper gratitude in us, empowering us to fix our eyes on Jesus… the author AND finisher of our faith!
the study By Jonathan Lee McElHenny
As the Scriptures say, “No one is righteous— not even one. No one is truly wise; no one is seeking God. All have turned away; all have become useless. No one does good, not a single one”- Romans 3:10-12
Now, that’s an encouraging verse. “No one does good, not a single one”! That sounds so harsh. But, just in my short stint here on the planet, I have discovered it to be woefully true. The Apostle Paul, who wrote the book of Romans from the bible, wrote this that reads exactly like our collective journal:
“I don’t really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don’t do it. Instead, I do what I hate. But if I know that what I am doing is wrong, this shows that I agree that the law is good. So I am not the one doing wrong; it is sin living in me that does it. And I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. I want to do what is right, but I can’t. I want to do what is good, but I don’t. I don’t want to do what is wrong, but I do it anyway. But if I do what I don’t want to do, I am not really the one doing wrong; it is sin living in me that does it”
- Romans 7:15-20
The core of humanity is corrupted and this corruption happened long before any of us were born. Mankind once walked with God and lived in paradise with God. There was no sin, no shame, no hate, no crime and no war. There was not even death. Where mankind once walked in the garden of God with nothing but perfect love, sin entered and led to the fall. Mankind gave into their own selfish desires and thus created a separation between God and mankind. A separation that still exists today.
That sounds so sad! It truly is, but that’s not the end of the story. God became man!
“In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. He existed in the beginning with God. God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him. The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it”- John 1:1-5
And then in verse 14 it says: “So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son”
God did not leave us abandoned in our sin or shame. He would not leave us separated from Himself! He poured out his grace and gave us the opportunity to put our faith in him, and receive forgiveness, power, and eternal life in Christ.
He, Emmanuel, Jesus, clothed Himself in newborn skin, and became like us to fully identify with us, live among us, and show us the Way. He brought healing to the sick, rest for the weary, and set the captives free. But again, we turned against him and sent Him to His death. Such is our fickle, sin-sick nature. But for this reason, God came down. He, Himself was and is the only Cure. His momentary death on the cross (satisfying the death bounty on our head) became eternal life to us. The law teaches, an eye for an eye. Blood for blood. Jesus stepped in and became the Substitute in our place and we went free. Jesus, the perfect son of God became the sinless sacrifice for humanity.
“He never sinned, nor ever deceived anyone. He did not retaliate when he was insulted, nor threaten revenge when he suffered. He left his case in the hands of God, who always judges fairly. He personally carried our sins in his body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right. By his wounds you are healed”- 1 Peter 2:22-24
God did all of that, just to be reunited with his creation? Yes, He did! That is why I sing with my whole heart “Thank you for the cross! Thank you for the Blood”!
It is why the redeemed sing God’s praises every day. “I was blind but now I see, I was lost but now I’m found”. It is not mere theology. It is experientially true in the lives of the forgiven.

Who bore the curse
Of sin and death

It wiped away my guilty stains
And washed me clean
Oh, what a love, I’ve been redeemed.

jonathan lee bio
Jonathan Lee McElhenny is a husband, father, pastor, worship leader and songwriter. But when asked to describe who he is, he answers, “matchmaker.” “I was created to worship, and to lead others in worship,” he says. “I like to think of myself as a matchmaker between God and man in partnership with The Holy Spirit. I want more than anything for people to have a true revelation of who God is because when people truly see Jesus, it changes them forever. That is what I am called to do. People many times have told me that my music helps them see Jesus, There is nothing better than that to me.”
Jonathan’s focus on making Jesus famous has attracted many talented artists to record songs he’s written. These artists include the Newsboys, For King & Country, Laura Story, Phillips, Craig & Dean, People & Songs, Jeff Deyo, Aaron Shust, Tricia Brock, Melanie Tierce, Rebecca St. James, Selah, Jordan Merritt, Acquire The Fire and others. Three of those songs have been nominated for four Dove Awards (Worship Song of the Year for “When The Stars Burn Down” by Travis Cottrell and Phillips, Craig & Dean, Inspirational Song of the year for ‘More And More Of You’ by Selah, Song of the Year and Pop Song of the Year for “Proof Of Your Love” by for King & Country.)
(Added Note- “When The Stars Burn Down” was number 1 on the charts inspirational Christian Radio.) “You Are My Shepherd” and “The Altar” by Tricia Brock were in the top 5 of inspirational Christian Radio along with “More and More Of You” by Selah which was also in the top 5 of inspirational Christian Radio. “Proof Of Your Love” by For King And Country was in the top of Christian Radio. “You Are My Shepherd,” “When The Stars Burn Down” and “Proof Of Your Love “have all won Sesac Awards.
McElhenny’s success is well-deserved, according to those who know him. “Jonathan is someone that I’ve written some of my best songs with.” Says co-writer, friend and label-head of People & Songs, Jennie Lee Riddle. “It’s a true honor to serve and help send him out as a blessing for such a time as this.” McElhenny is a highly successful songwriter, known as “Jonathan Lee”. And yet, he obeyed the urging of the Holy Spirit and transitioned from the road to full time pastoring in 2016. He says. “I want to leave a legacy that leads people to Jesus, and pastoring helps expand the Kingdom exponentially by helping others around me to grow in Christ. I love it."
Jonathan’s songs, co-written with notables Benji Cowart, David Moffitt, Chad Cates, Jennie Lee Riddle, Richie Fike, BJ Putnam, Doug Engquist, Corey Voss, Jordan Merritt, and Jared Anderson, bring the worshipper back to the basics as a follower of Christ. If the track record is any indication, Jonathan Lee McElhenny’s music will continue to match the hearts of men and women to the heart of a loving Savior.

Fall of Jericho by Jordan Merritt: Lyrics, Meaning & Story
Read the Story and Listen to the song, “Fall Of Jericho”
presenting Jordan merritt
and the band table
song meaning
“Now Jericho was strongly fortified because of the Israelites—no one leaving or entering. The Lord said to Joshua, “Look, I have handed Jericho, its king, and its best soldiers over to you”
Did you catch that? God meets Joshua before the Israelites ever take one step! He promises that He’s already fully given Jericho over to Israel! He inspires faith and confidence and then gives them their marching orders.
THE PLAN: MARCHING ORDERS
Let’s look at the next verse:
“March around the city with all the men of war, circling the city one time. Do this for six days. Have seven priests carry seven ram’s-horn trumpets in front of the ark. But on the seventh day, march around the city seven times, while the priests blow the rams’ horns. When there is a prolonged blast of the horn and you hear its sound, have all the troops give a mighty shout. Then the city wall will collapse, and the troops will advance, each man straight ahead”
God has the prerogative to design plans that make the way for His promise. Obedience to his marching orders matter.
He could have just caused the walls to fall in one day, without Israel ever marching, but He instead chose to work in, with, and through their obedience. He does that with us too. An invitation will always come with marching orders.
THE PROCESS CHALLENGES OUR CONFIDENCE, CONFRONTS, AND CHANGES US
God grows our faith, and each step of obedience is designed to challenge, confront and change us.
Our Confidence. God permits situations where it will be tested and challenged, revealing what is present and not present; demanding each one of us to come up higher.
Think about what it must have felt like to have the warriors of Jericho staring over at the wall, taunting, hurling insults, possibly spitting, and who knows what else. Imagine how weak, utterly exposed and vulnerable it would feel, as a warrior, to show up, and simply walk around.
All were challenged and tested that week with every step. Who’s report is to be believed? Fear? Pride? The mighty? The mockers? Or God? In what or in whom is our confidence?
The Confrontation. No one was left out. God put them all to the test. Imagine it from both sides. The chance to run (in the right direction - towards God) was there for all.
Wise Rahab, full of humility and faith, is proof. Let’s let her words set the scene and posture our hearts:
“I know that the LORD has given you this land and that a great fear of you has fallen on us, so that all who live in this country are melting in fear because of you.
We have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red Sea for you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to Sihon and Og, the two kings of the Amorites east of the Jordan, whom you completely destroyed.
When we heard of it, our hearts melted in fear and everyone’s courage failed because of you, for the LORD your God is God in heaven above and on the earth below.”
It is clear as we read the story from the sidelines that fear and pride were coming down. Those warriors who were strong in battle, were told not to battle. What a blow to pride. What a false confidence killer.
The confrontation was real. It was on both sides. It’s easier to imagine being on the “right” side - but what if we are wrong? When other people’s faith or fear looks ridiculous to us and we laugh inside…what’s inside?
We can assume we are safe on the inside to think as we please… but God sure knows how to get on the inside. That should halt us and cause us to stare at God.
Those folks in Jericho hoped they were safe in their little fortified city. Who was more vulnerable? Both.
“Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account” (Hebrews 4:13).
Jesus answered, ‘Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans because they suffered this way? I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish.
Or those eighteen who died when the tower in Siloam fell on them—do you think they were more guilty than all the others living in Jerusalem? I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish.
The Change. Again, it begins with an invitation that comes with marching orders. The process of seven days, walls and circles changed everyone. Some warriors grew past fear and obedience to childlike faith. Others saw everything they had ever placed confidence in crumble.
That shout was deafening. It represented a completed process. It represented that the change was NOW.
It was a simultaneous sound of victory and defeat. Scripture acknowledges that whatever we don’t do in faith is sin. So somewhere in that march, obedience must have turned into faith, because on the seventh day, the seventh time around, the rocks indeed cried out, but Israel’s shout of faith was heard by God and the walls came tumbling down.
THE INVITATION
God is not going back on His Word. He is going to finish what He started. Whose report is to be believed and on which side will we stand? Fear or Faith? Where does our confidence stand? To what does it bow?
Friends, we implore you to put all your confidence in Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of your faith. He keeps His promises. His ways are perfect. We are changed by His processes. Christ, Our Warrior King can be trusted as our sole Defense. Keep on marching - soon the trumpet will be heard.
Here are some battle songs to help you on your journey.
Remember, “The promise is the fall of Jericho!”

message from the writers
jonathan lee
I believe the story of Jericho is so much deeper than a city with fortified walls.
Yes, it reminds us that God can use the simple songs and shouts of a few to tear down the strongest strongholds that humanity can build. But, it also should remind us that God can tear down any stronghold that stands against Him and those that follow him, including sin, fear, depression, and death.
We wrote this song to remind the listener that God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. If He did it then, He will do it now! He who the son sets free is free indeed!

Getting to be a part of Fall Of Jericho has been one of the highlights of the last year. In my world we see so many people with these seemingly insurmountable struggles and hardships. Fall Of Jericho, for me, represents a defiant joy in the midst of these trials that comes from the understanding of the remedy…Jesus! Just keep marching!
Sabin flore
I remember the joy that filled the room when the four of us wrote “Fall of Jericho.” When I contemplate the significance of this song for me, I find myself concentrating on its opening line: “Have you forgotten we crossed the Jordan and we were safe”… As children of God, we frequently lose our focus and overlook the ways the Lord has safeguarded, protected, and fought on our behalf. Instead of succumbing to fear, look back at what the Lord has accomplished for you, and continue moving ahead into His intended path for you.
fall of jericho lyrics
Chorus
Oh, in my own Jericho
I’m just gonna keep on marchin'
My eyes on a new horizon and
Hold like I’ll never let go
Cause you know how this goes
The promise is the fall of Jericho.
Verse 1
Have you forgotten
We crossed the Jordan
And we were safe?
We saw the wonders
But then we wandered
Away
Pre Chorus 1
But I’ve seen You move
A deliverance
A heavenly escape
And if I fear you
I’ll stare down walls
Until I see a way
Verse 2
There's always gonna be a giant
There's always gonna more fighting
But I know there's hope.
Pre Chorus 2
Cause I’ve seen You move
You gave me something
None can take away
So I’ll keep shouting
Cause every wall that’s
Standings gotta break
Oh, it's gotta break
Bridge
I’m just gonna keep on marching
I’m just gonna keep on marching
I’m just gonna keep on marching
I’m just gonna keep on marching
Chorus 2
Oh, bye-bye, Jericho!
Listen to the trumpet sounding!
He’s always gonna keep His promise!
Oh, no You won’t let me go,
Now I know how this goes.
The promise is the fall of Jericho.

"Worry" by Phil King
Pre-Save and Pre-Add “Worry” by Phil King on Spotify and iTunes.
the story and the study
Did you know that you can live a completely worry-free life? You don’t have to wait until Heaven, either. Right now, by God’s grace, you can learn to walk with Jesus and enjoy every day life with Him. You don’t have to spend another moment worrying about a thing.
It sounds irresponsible, doesn’t it? As if worry, rather than faith, is helpful. However, if we’ve been responsible, done our best, cast our cares on Jesus, and prayed, then, can’t we just leave the outcome with God? He’s the only omnipresent, omniscient, omnipotent, sovereign One, not us. And Scripture proves that even though we worry He is sleeping, He still rises to handle the worst of storms.
Phil King states,
“My grandfather Charles Combs is my hero. One of the things he would always tell me when I was growing up and felt worried was, “Don’t look in. Look UP!”
This is such great advice from Phil’s grandfather. Rather than looking to ourselves for the answers when we are facing all kinds of trouble and worries, the best thing we can do is look to Jesus. Worry is such a normal thing for us frail humans and it is oftentimes we permit our frailty to lead. However, even though we are frail (weak), in Christ we are strong. The rock on which we stand, Jesus, is unbreakable. And He commands us not to worry about a thing.
“Worry never won no battle
Worry never stopped no pain
Worry never brought
No mountain down
That was standing in my way”
As the lyric to “Worry” states, worry doesn’t ever win a battle. It doesn’t fix a thing! Rather, it keeps us stuck in yesterday’s inconsistencies and failings, and anxious about what tomorrow may hold. Worry keeps us from being fully present in the moment and prevents us from enjoying God’s gift of life in the here and now. Not a moment of it is worth it— ever. It’s a thief.
So, what is God’s alternative then? How do we combat worry when it whimpers at our gates? Here are just a few simple things, each of them strong enough to help you overcome:
Cast our cares on Jesus because He cares for us
(1 Peter 5:7)Think on the “whatsoever things.” What are the whatsoever things?
Seek God’s Kingdom first, knowing that He will provide for our every need (Matthew 6:33)
Remember that worrying doesn’t add a single hour to our lives
(Luke 12:25)
Phil King says,
“If I serve a God who is so kind and good to save us from death, hell, and destruction – why would I even think for a second that He is going to leave me hanging over anything else in my life?”
Phil is right. God’s has graciously handled the huge things. Why would we assume that He’s not big enough for the small things? He promises to never leave us or forsake us, no matter what we are facing or going through. Rather than expending ourselves worrying about all the things, the best thing (and the most responsible thing) to do is trust Jesus.
In the words of Phil,
“Praise Him and set your hope on what He is able to do. Stand on His Word. Because like Jesus and this song says, worry will never get us anywhere”
Worry lyrics
Chorus
Worry never won no battle
Worry never stopped no pain
Worry never brought
No mountain down
That was standing in my way
Worry never gave no answer
Never lit my way back home
So I’mma lay it down
And let You Jesus
‘Cause You are in control
Verse 1
I’ll never add
A day to my life
Wonderin’ what
The future holds
All that I’ll gain
Is a blow to my pride
Tryin’ to know what I can’t know
The hope that I’ve found
Says I won’t be left out
But the heavy liftin’s up to you
So I’m backin’ down
Cuz I can’t hold my ground
Oh You just do the thing you do
Verse 2
The words that You’ve said
Get me out of my head
They’re like a lamp unto my feet
I’m finding my heart’s
Not afraid of dark
Even when when I cannot see
I don’t gotta stress
‘Bout what ain’t happened yet
You've heard every prayer I’ve prayed
Not even once
Have you wavered or broke
A single promise you have made
Bridge
I will think on what is lovely
I will dwell on what is true
I will sing of what is praiseworthy
And set my mind on You

“Better Road”
the story
I was sitting on a couch listening to a friend tell me that I should record some songs. I remember saying “I have let that part of me die”. The next statement changed the course of my life. She said, “Cliff, God is really good at resurrecting things”. The next year seemed like a whirlwind.
Some dear friends and I started working on a song. We started singing “Goodbye, Goodbye, Goodbye”, and over the course of the next few hours we wrote the song now known as “Better Road.” This song has been a gift to me from Jesus. The lyrics are filled with pure joy. This joy comes from a literal weary traveler that found a better way. If I was a wrestler, this song would be my theme music. It shouts of the freedom I’ve found and reminds me that I’m not who I was.
As I looked back on the last twelve years of my life, it seemed like I was trying to atone for sins that Christ had already died for. I thought that I was disqualified. I believed that I had made too many bad decisions to begin again. I had hurt people. While I did need to grow up, learn, make apologies and amends, I also needed to rest in the grace, love, and peace that I had preached, sang, and wrote about for so many years.
In the healing process, I had to lay down the world that I had created around myself, so God could have room to build a person that looks a lot more like Himself. It led me to the realization that the things that are worth fighting for, are the things He orchestrates and ordains. These things include but are not limited to my marriage, my children and my call to pastor and minister to those around me. We have the freedom, today, to take a different path.
I’ll never forget what my dad would say to me, “Son, you have never done something so bad that God won’t take you, or take you back”. Friends, I am not who I was. I have experienced the resurrection of my soul, the resurrection of my family, and I am inviting you to walk on this better road. It’s a little narrow, but it will always be worth it.

Better road lyrics
Verse 1
Was a weary traveler
Done my share of trouble
Had a love for danger
Livin' undercover
Then He saw
Straight through me
He said Follow Me, son
Now all the things
That I once loved
They were not enough.
Chorus
I said, Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye
I’m heading down a better road
He took a wretch like me
And did the impossible
Hello, Hello, Hello
You’re looking at a miracle
And goodbye, goodbye, goodbye
I’m heading down the better road.
Verse 2
That path your takin'
Left you in the wreckage
Might have been good as dead
But He’s the resurrection
Cause He takes the dry bones
Brings 'em back to life
So come on start running with me
There’s not a better time!
Bridge
Come with me friend
Let’s go walking
Let’s make our way home
Come with me friend
Let’s go walking
Let’s make our way home
Come with me friend
Let’s go walking
Let’s make our way home
Come with me friend
Let’s go walking
Walking down that better road.

"Mercy of Jesus" by Phil King and Daniel Doss
Listen to “Mercy Of Jesus” by Phil King and Daniel Doss.
the story from phil king
I grew up in a small farm town in central California. Our house was on the edge of town, surrounded by cornfields, daisies, vineyards, almond orchards, and strawberry patches. As a child, I would often play in the house or out in the yard, and just by way of being a very active and busy little boy, I sometimes broke something that was valuable. And because I was a boy, it was usually something of my dad's that I broke.
One time I broke a costly lamp in our living room and my mom found out. A 10-year-old’s look of shame and shock must hold some sort of special place in a mom’s heart. I couldn’t believe what my mom did next. She said, “We are not going to tell Dad this happened, okay? We are going to run to the store right now and get a replacement before he gets home.” …What?? I knew that I didn’t deserve that kind of love. I deserved to work my butt off to replace that busted lamp. My mother was showing and exemplifying mercy.
This kind of treatment was not an everyday occurrence, and trust me, I did not get away with much. But every now and then, my mom let me off the hook and reminded me what mercy looks like. She stepped in, covered for me, paid the price, and replaced what had been broken. All I could do was be grateful.
There was no room for boasting that I had done something to earn or deserve that kind of kindness from her. Looking back, I see how her kindness bettered me, humbled me, and helped me see a beautiful and much needed glimpse of God’s mercy.
It helped me see the big picture of how Jesus’ broken body and shed blood is more than enough to cover and atone for every sin. Bumping into a table and breaking a living room lamp is one thing. Sinning against a holy God is a much more serious matter. I deserve death for that. But, oh, the Mercy of Jesus. He covers us worst ones. His grace is enough. His power is made perfect in my weaknesses.
In light of Christ’s mercy, may we be grateful and love others with the same love that we have received from Him. As freely as we have received mercy, let us give it.
I hope that you enjoy listening to the “Mercy Of Jesus” and that it is a wonderful blessing to you.
message from the writer
jade lundgren
The mercy of Jesus truly can cover us worst ones. God can forgive the worst we’ve ever done, and when repentant, even the most heinous of the world’s sins. It’s jarring, hard to fathom, altogether incredible that Jesus died and chose to shower His mercy on such people as us.
Praise God that His blood is strong enough and His mercy is new every single morning. It was an honor to write these words with Jennie Riddle, and the song, both in lyrics and melody, reminds me every time I hear it of the vastness, totality, and jaw-dropping kindness of God’s mercy. May every heart truly mean and sing along with it, “It covers me!”
message from the writer
Jennie Lee Riddle
I’ll never forget the morning Jade Lundgren introduced me to one of the most raw, honest, and heart wrenchingly beautiful lyrics I’ve ever encountered, “worst ones.” That was me. I loved getting to write this song with her. “The battle was long, the lines were all crossed.” That lyric of hers is more perfect today than the day in which it was written.
We live in a time where chaos abounds. The lanes all intersect and boundaries and decorum have run amok. None of us are getting out of this one clean. The mudslinging is real. We all are in desperate need of The Blood of The Lamb; the Mercy of Jesus; The Gospel. Jesus alone can take our black heart, wash it in His red blood, and make us white as snow.
It was a true honor to have these dear brothers and friends, Phil King and Daniel Doss, lend their honest hearts and powerful sound to give expression to our deepest cry of souls. Thank you boys for leading us to the throne.
mercy of jesus lyrics
Verse 1
I'm no stranger to sin
I've hurt You so
I don't do what I ought
I don't live what I know
But I fall in Your arms
Cry Father I've lost
The battle was long
The lines were
All crossed but
Chorus 1
Oh the mercy of Jesus
Covers us worst ones
Covers me
Your blood
The greatest of fountains
Oh mighty ocean
Please cover me
Mercy of Jesus

Verse 2
I've squandered my love
I've spent all my life
I find myself lost
'Cause I chose to hide
Oh Savior come save
I'm sick and in need
Oh will You come heal
What I've done to me oh

the story
July 7, 2016. Some friends and I were in Tyler, Texas leading worship for a youth camp. Meanwhile, chaos was happening just 100 miles from us in Dallas. On the night of July 7, a group of police officers were ambushed by a shooter killing 5 and injuring 9 others. Reports shared that the ambush was in response to the innocent killings of black men at the hands of the police.
Now, I’m used to violence. I mean… it’s everywhere. I’d even become used to violence surrounding racial issues (sadly). But this night was different. I laid in my bed in torment over what was happening. My heart broke for the black men. For the police officers. For the families. For the bystanders. For our country. For humanity.
I felt the dissonance and the awareness of how much I desired to change things, but simultaneously how unable I was to help. I was full of every negative emotion possible. Anger. Sadness. Hopelessness. But, I was also keenly aware of how much God desired to intervene. That night I was marked by something. I knew that for the rest of my life, I needed to be present in these moments. I needed to carry reconciliation (especially racial) in every and aspect of what I do.
Not long after the youth camp, I was at a songwriting camp called The Emerging Sound, still unable to shake what had happened just weeks before. This one lingered. It hurt me.
I decided that I wanted to use the thing God put in my hand to combat sin and brokenness in the world: A song. I had a burning desire inside to write TRUTH for the church. For the world. For us all. Then the right session came and this song is what was born in that session.
How does the unity of the Bride of Jesus connect to racial tensions in the world?
John 17:20-24 says, “I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me through their message. I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one—as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me. I have given them the glory you gave me, so they may be one as we are one. I am in them and you are in me. May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me. Father, I want these whom you have given me to be with me where I am. Then they can see all the glory you gave me because you loved me even before the world began!”
There’s a direct connection between the unity of God’s people and the world knowing the Love of God! 1 John 4:18 says that “perfect love casts out fear” and our world is riddled with FEAR. I would also make the argument that all sin comes from a place of fear!
I believe that if the Church, the Bride of Christ and the extension of Jesus’ ministry on the earth, would fight to "maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace,” (Ephesians 4:3) we would begin to see the fruit of what Jesus did on the cross manifest in so many tangible ways in our world.
People would experience true love for the first time. The blind would see. The lame would walk. The hurting would be healed. The captives would be freed. Violence could be halted. The agenda of the enemy in our world would be met by the power of God’s Spirit at work in his children.
The gates of HELL can’t stand against the Body of Christ when we are full of His Spirit and in unity! I can’t say that I totally understand HOW our unity as the family of God produces this fruit… but I am confident in the One who said that it would.
As the line in the bridge of “One” states, “Church arise, set color aside, we’re joining in Christ’s victory”, this song is an invitation for the family of God to join in bold love for one another across every nationality, denomination, and generation under what Jesus has done for us.
This does not mean that we ignore our differences. Rather, it means that we celebrate the truth that we are all made in the image of God, no matter our skin color, age, or theological camps. We are ONE family now in Christ.
Galatians 3:28 reads, “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”
My prayer for us is the same as Jesus' before he faced the Cross. That we, the Church, would be one as the Holy Trinity is ONE. That our love for each other would violently sweep through the earth and that people of all walks of life would experience the life-changing love of God through us, His children.
ONE lyrics
Verse 1
There's a king we know
And a promise foretold
Of a nation not governed by fear,
Where peace flows free
To a sinner like me
And a world overtaken by tears.
Pre Chorus
We won't lose faith,
Your kingdom is our reward.
We take our place,
Your Spirit goes where we go.
Chorus
Let Your word be the
Loudest voice we hear
Your Spirit run wild in this nation
Your Church come alive
Step into the fight
We will not be moved
United we stand in You
We are one
Oh, oh, oh, oh.
Verse 2
There's a joy we've seen
Our failures redeemed
Your power eclipsing our sin
Let the mountains shake
And the strongholds break
Let freedom ring over our land
Bridge
So Church arise, one body, one bride
Let's stand under what we’ve received
This perfect grace that died in our place
Our songs are now one melody
So Church arise, set color aside
We’re joining in Christ’s victory
And we pray again
Lord, come heal our land
Till glory is all that we see
We are one oh, oh, oh, oh

“Every day” by Phil King
and jekalyn carr
the story from phil king
You know, I desire to be real when I sing a song like, “Every Day.” I really want to mean what I am singing because Jesus is MORE THAN deserving of all the praise.
To be honest with you, there are times when I don’t “feel” like praising God. But in those moments, I consider God’s glory on display throughout creation. I remember that He made it all and that He sustains it all, including me. As I reflect on these things, “I gotta sing out a new song until my heart sings along!” I have to “lift up a true praise” cause God really does “make me glad.” In spite of how I feel in the moment, I will “rejoice every day.”
It is easy to overlook God’s miracles, one of them being how He orders the universe. Just think about it: we live on a planet that is hurling through a solar system at a thousand miles and hour, yet we are safe and able to go about our every day lives unharmed. This is God’s doing.
If the Earth were to tilt off of its axis even one degree, “inertial forces produced in such a change would literally tear the earth apart.” This is evidence of the reality that God is in control and that He really does have the whole world in His hands.
Also think about the miracle of how God created your body to be able to heal itself whenever you get a cut or a bruise. And think about the growth of a seed into a plant. With a little water and sunshine, it becomes something beautiful. This not an accident or coincidence. It all points to God’s creative and restorative work.
Then, there is the capstone of all miracles: that Jesus would come and surrender His life, giving everyone, everywhere the opportunity to walk in the light of His love, mercy and grace. Truly wonderful, right?
The more I observe the goodness of God all around me, the more my heart just wants to sing out like the angels in Isaiah 6:3, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God almighty! The WHOLE EARTH is filled with His glory.” Those angels really said it right – the whole Earth IS filled with God’s glory.
This causes me to pause in wonder. I just can’t fathom all of the power, creative glory, and love that God expresses to us through His creation and through His Son, Jesus. He expresses it all for the purpose of redeeming and rescuing us… Every. Single. Day.
So, in light of all this, “I gotta sing out a new song, until my heart sings along.” Even if it takes a minute for my heart to catch up with the wonder and beauty of it all, and even if I do not feel like singing in the moment, Jesus is still worthy to be praised. I will rejoice every day.
every day
Verse 1
I was wand'ring way from home
Couldn't get back on my own
But my God You came and found me
You did that You did that just for me
Verse 2
I was wrestling with the dark
Fighting blindly for my heart
You stepped in now I see clearly
You did that You came
And made me see
Chorus
I gotta sing out a new song
Until my heart sings along
I'm gonna lift up a true praise
'Cause You make me glad
(So I will rejoice every day)
Verse 3
I tried to do life on my own
It left me empty and alone
I needed You to come and fill me
You did that You gave new life to me
Bridge
Oh I'll give You praise
Every day (every day)
Every day

“Heaven, Heaven” by Phil King
the story
by phil king
“Heaven, Heaven” began to dawn on me while my wife and I were living in Wyoming in the beautiful Teton Mountain Range. Every single day we were surrounded by the creative majesty of God! One day, while taking in the snow-capped peaks and herds grazing before layers of deep forest, I blurted out, “Wow! This isn’t even Heaven!” I was overwhelmed. “If it is this magnificent here, what is Heaven like!?” Since, my eyes have been fixed and my heart anticipates all that awaits! Melody and revelation arrested me and I had to write this song.
My long-time friend, Jennie Lee Riddle added her heart, faith, wordsmithing, and incredible lyrical additions. She states, "1 Cor 15: 39-41 has absolutely captivated me. It compares everything we see on this side as “pre-resurrection seed” (The Message Bible) and ignites wonder with the invitation to, “imagine what the resurrection plants will be like!” As different a tomato seed and tomato. Our best effort in a million songs, pale to the glory of what it will be like when we get there.”
Our hope is that this song will be a sound-track for the walk HOME. And to the world in need of hope, receive the invitation of the Lord to be with Him in Paradise.. After all, isn’t Heaven the invitation that Jesus extended, as He hung on the cross, to a man just like us (Luke 23:39-43)?
And here is another thought! Maybe one of the biggest reasons why Jesus has not physically come back to the earth yet is because He is hard at work (John 5:17), joyfully making ready (John 14:3), right this very moment. He promised, “I am going to prepare a place for you so that you may be there with me also.” What a thought! The Carpenter from Nazareth and the Celestial City awaits the arrival of you and me; we are headed to our true and forever Home. I don’t think we spend enough time immersing ourselves in that reality. I pray that our spiritual eyes become open so completely to this reality that we can’t help but encourage one another to look towards that never-ending Day
Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die”- John 11:25-26.
Heaven, Heaven
Verse 1
There’s a city where
The saints are safe
It’s lit by glory from His face
There’s plenty on the table there
No more anxious fear or care
My treasures are stored up for me
They can’t be spoiled
Or robbed by thieves
There are no locks on any doors
No want or worry anymore
Chorus
Heaven, heaven
That’s what I’m headed for
Heaven, heaven
I’m gonna be with Jesus
With Jesus forever
That’s what I’m living for
Heaven, heaven
Verse 3
The key is that old rugged tree
And that old grave’s the gate for me
All earthly gains will be laid down
I’ll exchange ‘em for a robe and crown
Don’t mourn me, when it’s time, I go
I’ve lived to finally get Home
I’m on my way to my Reward
The Lamb of God, my King and Lord
Bridge
I’m gonna see that city
Where the streams of life
Never will run dry
The brightness of the rainbows
Shining from the throne
Flood the streets of gold
They’ll be no pain or sickness
Everything made right
No more death or night
I’m gonna join those angels
Sing forever long
New an ancient songs

“Psalm 23 (I Am Not Alone)” by Phil King
(feat. Meredith Andrews)
Psalm 23 is one of the most familiar and beloved passages of scripture.
A call and response adaptation in song went viral back before the world changed. Its continued spread helps prove that though everything and everybody shifts, God does not and His Word holds true. At a time when there is more connectivity than there has ever been, mental health studies show the there is a heightened sense of loneliness.
Considering this, we wanted an arrangement of this song that further breaks down the barriers between us and God. So we removed the call and response in hopes of making it even more accessible and usable for worshippers. We wanted each heart to be able sing out in whatever state or place they find themselves; in spite of feelings of isolation, and without a worship leader. The truth is, God promises to never leave us or forsake us. This song echoes with that ancient promise and resounds through the bridge with the revelation, “Your Spirit lives within me!” I Am Not Alone.
the story
I grew up in the humble farming areas of California surrounded by cornfields and cows. One of the perks of living here was places like Yosemite or the beach were all but a two-hour drive from our front door. I remember one night when I was 18 years old some of my music pals and I decided we’d like to go to the Monterey Jazz Festival and enjoy some really good music.
It was a wonderful night, not only did we hear some of the best musicians in the world play their hearts out but Starbucks was also giving out free samples of their new (at the time) Pumpkin Spice Latte! Some of the world's best musicians doing their thing and free pumpkin spice lattes all night long – that was pretty close to heaven on earth! Haha.
There was a problem however with drinking 8 or 9 Pumpkin Spice latte samples. About 45 minutes into our 2-hour drive home “Uhhhh… Hey guys… I need to use the restroom…” The only problem is we had not hit the 101 freeway yet and we were still out in the middle of nowhere surrounded by mountains, cornfields, strawberry patches, and a whole lotta nothing!
Well… my friend driving kindly pulled over so I could step outside into a cornfield and use the restroom. It was pitch black with absolutely no light at all except for the stars… And then the worst thing possible happened. My fellow teenage buddies decided it would be a wonderful idea to drive off and leave me there stranded as a joke.
What makes this worse is the Mel Gibson film “Signs” had just come out and I had recently watched it. Being left stranded like that in a cornfield after having just watched that movie is a lot for an 18-year-old. Hahaha, I was scared to death, I will never forget it. But you know, something really cool happened at that moment. I spoke the name of Jesus and immediately felt the presence of God with me.
Hallelujah, even though my friends (jokingly) had left me stranded, I was not alone and I knew it. All of the sudden darkness felt like light, fear turned to courage, and a lamb became a lion. God’s promise of being our Good Shepherd is for real and it is available for all who choose to follow Him — and what happens in the reality of His nearness is a miracle!
Even though I had just felt fear a moment before I suddenly felt comfort, nearness to God, and total peace. This is both the mystery and miracle of the Holy Spirit with us.
I want to close with Psalm 23, and as you read it know that you are reading the Truth of God's word, an enduring promise that never changes:
“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”
Hallelujah, I am not alone. Amen.

By His death your debt is paid
Trust in Him Him alone
Bridge
A shelter a fortress
When all the earth gives way
Though mountains may crumble
You are my strength and stay
(REPEAT)

Be exalted
Be exalted
Be exalted Lord

"It Is Finished'
Listen to “It Is Finished”
Listen to “It Is Finished”
“it is finished” lyrics
Verse 1
Once and for all
Once and for all
You offered up Your life
For one and all
For one and all
The perfect sacrifice
Pre-Chorus
Atoning blood was shed
Love conquered when You said
Chorus 1
It is finished
It is done
To the world
Salvation comes
Hallelujah we're alive
Hell was silenced
When You cried
It is finished
It is finished
Verse 2
Who is this King
Who is this King
So mighty and so strong
He is the One
He is the One
The earth has waited for
Pre-Chorus
God's remedy for sin
With mercy for all men
Bridge
The earth shook and trembled
The sun bowed its head
The veil of the temple
Was opened for man
As Jesus went down
In the cold of the grave
Defeated the darkness
When He overcame
The keys of the kingdom
Were placed into hands
Of children and priests
And of fishers of men
Through all generations
His voice will be heard
Creation resounds
The victorious words
Chorus 2
It is finished
It is done
To the world
Salvation comes
Hallelujah we're alive
Hell was silenced
When You cried
It is finished
It is done
Now completed
The work of love
Hallelujah He's alive
Join the song
Of the ransomed Bride
It is finished
It is finished
It is finished
"O Come Divine Messiah"
Listen to “O Come Divine Messiah”
lyrics
Verse 1
O come divine Messiah
The world is longing for the day
When hope shall sing its triumph
And sadness flies away
Pre-Chorus
Dear Savior come to tired earth
And bring the grace of dawn
Dispel the night with Thy face
Come Messiah come
Chorus
O come divine Messiah come
O come divine Messiah come
Verse 2
O Thou whom nations sigh for
Whom priest and prophet
Long foretold
Does break the captive fetters
And brings the wayward home
Bridge
There is hope today
That God Himself
Might shine upon
Our souls and save
Unto you a Savior comes and
Everything will change
Everything will change
