the story from phil king

You know, I desire to be real when I sing a song like, “Every Day.” I really want to mean what I am singing because Jesus is MORE THAN deserving of all the praise.

To be honest with you, there are times when I don’t “feel” like praising God. But in those moments, I consider God’s glory on display throughout creation. I remember that He made it all and that He sustains it all, including me. As I reflect on these things, “I gotta sing out a new song until my heart sings along!” I have to “lift up a true praise” cause God really does “make me glad.” In spite of how I feel in the moment, I will “rejoice every day.”

It is easy to overlook God’s miracles, one of them being how He orders the universe. Just think about it: we live on a planet that is hurling through a solar system at a thousand miles and hour, yet we are safe and able to go about our every day lives unharmed. This is God’s doing.

If the Earth were to tilt off of its axis even one degree, “inertial forces produced in such a change would literally tear the earth apart.” This is evidence of the reality that God is in control and that He really does have the whole world in His hands.

Also think about the miracle of how God created your body to be able to heal itself whenever you get a cut or a bruise. And think about the growth of a seed into a plant. With a little water and sunshine, it becomes something beautiful. This not an accident or coincidence. It all points to God’s creative and restorative work.

Then, there is the capstone of all miracles: that Jesus would come and surrender His life, giving everyone, everywhere the opportunity to walk in the light of His love, mercy and grace. Truly wonderful, right?

The more I observe the goodness of God all around me, the more my heart just wants to sing out like the angels in Isaiah 6:3, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God almighty! The WHOLE EARTH is filled with His glory.” Those angels really said it right – the whole Earth IS filled with God’s glory.

This causes me to pause in wonder. I just can’t fathom all of the power, creative glory, and love that God expresses to us through His creation and through His Son, Jesus. He expresses it all for the purpose of redeeming and rescuing us… Every. Single. Day.

So, in light of all this, “I gotta sing out a new song, until my heart sings along.” Even if it takes a minute for my heart to catch up with the wonder and beauty of it all, and even if I do not feel like singing in the moment, Jesus is still worthy to be praised. I will rejoice every day.

every day

Verse 1
I was wand'ring way from home
Couldn't get back on my own
But my God You came and found me
You did that You did that just for me

Verse 2
I was wrestling with the dark
Fighting blindly for my heart
You stepped in now I see clearly
You did that You came
And made me see

Chorus
I gotta sing out a new song
Until my heart sings along
I'm gonna lift up a true praise
'Cause You make me glad
(So I will rejoice every day)

Verse 3
I tried to do life on my own
It left me empty and alone
I needed You to come and fill me
You did that You gave new life to me

Bridge
Oh I'll give You praise
Every day (every day)
Every day

the story
by
phil king

Heaven, Heaven” began to dawn on me while my wife and I were living in Wyoming in the beautiful Teton Mountain Range. Every single day we were surrounded by the creative majesty of God! One day, while taking in the snow-capped peaks and herds grazing before layers of deep forest, I blurted out, “Wow! This isn’t even Heaven!” I was overwhelmed. “If it is this magnificent here, what is Heaven like!?” Since, my eyes have been fixed and my heart anticipates all that awaits! Melody and revelation arrested me and I had to write this song.

My long-time friend, Jennie Lee Riddle added her heart, faith, wordsmithing, and incredible lyrical additions. She states, "1 Cor 15: 39-41 has absolutely captivated me. It compares everything we see on this side as “pre-resurrection seed” (The Message Bible) and ignites wonder with the invitation to, “imagine what the resurrection plants will be like!” As different a tomato seed and tomato. Our best effort in a million songs, pale to the glory of what it will be like when we get there.”

Our hope is that this song will be a sound-track for the walk HOME. And to the world in need of hope, receive the invitation of the Lord to be with Him in Paradise.. After all, isn’t Heaven the invitation that Jesus extended, as He hung on the cross, to a man just like us (Luke 23:39-43)?

And here is another thought! Maybe one of the biggest reasons why Jesus has not physically come back to the earth yet is because He is hard at work (John 5:17), joyfully making ready (John 14:3), right this very moment. He promised, “I am going to prepare a place for you so that you may be there with me also.” What a thought! The Carpenter from Nazareth and the Celestial City awaits the arrival of you and me; we are headed to our true and forever Home. I don’t think we spend enough time immersing ourselves in that reality. I pray that our spiritual eyes become open so completely to this reality that we can’t help but encourage one another to look towards that never-ending Day

Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die”- John 11:25-26.

Heaven, Heaven

Verse 1
There’s a city where
The saints are safe
It’s lit by glory from His face
There’s plenty on the table there
No more anxious fear or care

My treasures are stored up for me
They can’t be spoiled
Or robbed by thieves
There are no locks on any doors
No want or worry anymore

Chorus
Heaven, heaven
That’s what I’m headed for
Heaven, heaven
I’m gonna be with Jesus
With Jesus forever
That’s what I’m living for
Heaven, heaven

Verse 3
The key is that old rugged tree
And that old grave’s the gate for me
All earthly gains will be laid down
I’ll exchange ‘em for a robe and crown

Don’t mourn me, when it’s time, I go
I’ve lived to finally get Home
I’m on my way to my Reward
The Lamb of God, my King and Lord

Bridge
I’m gonna see that city
Where the streams of life
Never will run dry
The brightness of the rainbows
Shining from the throne
Flood the streets of gold
They’ll be no pain or sickness
Everything made right
No more death or night
I’m gonna join those angels
Sing forever long
New an ancient songs

"Psalm 23" by Phil King (feat. Meredith Andrews)

Listen to “Psalm 23” by Phil King (feat. Meredith Andrews)

Psalm 23 is one of the most familiar and beloved passages of scripture.

A call and response adaptation in song went viral back before the world changed. Its continued spread helps prove that though everything and everybody shifts, God does not and His Word holds true. At a time when there is more connectivity than there has ever been, mental health studies show the there is a heightened sense of loneliness.

Considering this, we wanted an arrangement of this song that further breaks down the barriers between us and God. So we removed the call and response in hopes of making it even more accessible and usable for worshippers. We wanted each heart to be able sing out in whatever state or place they find themselves; in spite of feelings of isolation, and without a worship leader. The truth is, God promises to never leave us or forsake us. This song echoes with that ancient promise and resounds through the bridge with the revelation, “Your Spirit lives within me!” I Am Not Alone.

the story

I grew up in the humble farming areas of California surrounded by cornfields and cows. One of the perks of living here was places like Yosemite or the beach were all but a two-hour drive from our front door. I remember one night when I was 18 years old some of my music pals and I decided we’d like to go to the Monterey Jazz Festival and enjoy some really good music.

It was a wonderful night, not only did we hear some of the best musicians in the world play their hearts out but Starbucks was also giving out free samples of their new (at the time) Pumpkin Spice Latte! Some of the world's best musicians doing their thing and free pumpkin spice lattes all night long – that was pretty close to heaven on earth! Haha.

There was a problem however with drinking 8 or 9 Pumpkin Spice latte samples. About 45 minutes into our 2-hour drive home “Uhhhh… Hey guys… I need to use the restroom…” The only problem is we had not hit the 101 freeway yet and we were still out in the middle of nowhere surrounded by mountains, cornfields, strawberry patches, and a whole lotta nothing!

Well… my friend driving kindly pulled over so I could step outside into a cornfield and use the restroom. It was pitch black with absolutely no light at all except for the stars… And then the worst thing possible happened. My fellow teenage buddies decided it would be a wonderful idea to drive off and leave me there stranded as a joke.

What makes this worse is the Mel Gibson film “Signs” had just come out and I had recently watched it. Being left stranded like that in a cornfield after having just watched that movie is a lot for an 18-year-old. Hahaha, I was scared to death, I will never forget it. But you know, something really cool happened at that moment. I spoke the name of Jesus and immediately felt the presence of God with me.

Hallelujah, even though my friends (jokingly) had left me stranded, I was not alone and I knew it. All of the sudden darkness felt like light, fear turned to courage, and a lamb became a lion. God’s promise of being our Good Shepherd is for real and it is available for all who choose to follow Him — and what happens in the reality of His nearness is a miracle!

Even though I had just felt fear a moment before I suddenly felt comfort, nearness to God, and total peace. This is both the mystery and miracle of the Holy Spirit with us.

I want to close with Psalm 23, and as you read it know that you are reading the Truth of God's word, an enduring promise that never changes:

“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”

Hallelujah, I am not alone. Amen.

until that day comes” lyrics

Verse 1
There will come a day
When God will be our light
And the dark of night
Will be sent to its grave
And there will come a time
When we will live forever
In a city that will never pass away

Pre-Chorus
Oh how my soul yearns
And even faints

Chorus
But until that day comes
I will go and warn the darkness
That the light of Jesus Christ
Has overcome
And until that day comes
I will speak to all injustice
That the moment of its ending
Is sure to come
(Oh the day will surely come)

Verse 2
We who are His church
Must prepare His coming
And go and tell
The nations of His worth
And let us give our lives
To the calling that is on us
To bind up every wound
And every hurt

Interlude
Oh the day will surely come
Oh the day will surely come
Oh the day will surely come

Bridge
Oh the day will surely come
(All things will be made right
We'll stand in holy light)

Old things will pass away)
Oh the day will surely come

Atoning blood was shed

Were placed into hands
Of children and priests
And of fishers of men
Through all generations
His voice will be heard
Creation resounds
The victorious words

Chorus 2
It is finished
It is done
To the world
Salvation comes
Hallelujah we're alive
Hell was silenced
When You cried
It is finished
It is done
Now completed
The work of love
Hallelujah He's alive
Join the song
Of the ransomed Bride
It is finished
It is finished

“Only A Man” Lyrics

I used to live my life in fear
Was worried all the time
From waking up to laying down
I had no peace of mind
The world became
A darkened place
A struggle without end
Although bitter times those were
The days that I had began
To understand
I was only a man

I grew up singing songs in church
With questions in my mind
Then turned my back
And ran away
From God who gave me life

Then one night His presence fell
I wept and shook and then
I fell down and cried
Dear Jesus, rescue me again
I understand I am only a man

And He said, What will it be now?
Will you choose me or keep
Swimming up stream now?
I've been inside your head
Hearing you scream out.

Well here I am
Just take my hand and I'll take out
All of the pain and all of the fear
All of the fear

I'll give you my burdens
(I'll give you peace)
All of my desires
(I'll give you what you need)

Oh, what about these chains, Lord?
(I'll set you free)
But they're so heavy
(Lay them at my feet)
I'll lay them at your feet
Just promise you won't leave
(I'll never leave)

So where do I go from here, Lord?
(Just follow me)
(Just follow me)

I'll follow you (Just follow me)
Wherever you lead
Wherever you lead
Wherever you lead

“nobody” lyrics

Verse 1
I get stage fright when I see
What the stage might make of me
If I step up
Will I step back down the same
Oh this stage high is so sweet
But the limelight is so sour
So if I stay here
Will you still know my name

Chorus
'Cause I’m over
This oversaturation
Of people only chasin’
The same old overrated dream
Sayin' if they don’t
Know your name
Then you haven’t really made it
And if that’s the case
Then I’m happy
I’m happy to be nobody

Verse 2
Oh the truth remains untold
To hang on to the songs we stole
But the stars that are in my eyes
Are growing cold

TAG
I'm happy to be nobody
I'm happy to be nobody

Life Bringing Symphony

Listen to “Life Bringing Symphony.”

life and resurrection in Jesus

Life Bringing Symphony” speaks to the resonant sound of hope and freedom when everyone, everywhere, joins in to declare and sing forth Truth and Love, rather than fear or hate. It speaks to the Word of God that brings hope, healing, and redemption in Jesus’ name.

This sound penetrates the hardest of hearts and offers fresh grace to those weary of the unrest and chaos in the world. “It beckons the sleepers to rise.” It brings the dead to life, making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland (Isa 43:19). This is the sound of resurrection life in Jesus' name.

It bleeds through all the noise of rage, angst, and despair, pointing people to Christ, who is making all things new. “The Word of God is alive and active, sharper than any double-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and spirit, of joint and marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart” (Hebrews 12:2).

That Word is Christ (John 1). He speaks Life and Wisdom, Grace and Truth, through the thick and thin, through the wind and rain. He does not rudely yell (Isa 42:2). He is not a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal (1 Cor 13:1). There is hope for us.

A bruised reed He will not break, and a smoldering wick He will not snuff out. In faithfulness He will bring forth justice. He will not grow faint or be discouraged till He has established justice in the earth. Even distant lands beyond the sea wait for His instruction” (Isa 42:3-4).

The Word of Christ is present in His people, and together we can proclaim His Good News to the lost and the least. We are His ambassadors, children of God, made in His image, with authority and power in His name to encourage and uplift those who are hurt and struggling.

We can be a life-bringing symphony amid a dark and chaotic world filled with lies, propaganda, deceit, heresy, and upheaval. The Word of God is alive and with that living Word, all things are possible.

“Ears once deaf now hear it clear.
Voiceless break out in a song.
Joined with the King in His vict’ry refrain,
Our praise will awaken the dawn.
Our praise will awaken the dawn.”

life bringing symphony” lyrics

Verse 1
A sound is emerging
That resonates freedom
And beckons the sleepers to rise
This melody echoes
Of Kingdom revival
That heralds across the skies

Chorus
The Anthem
Is drowning out misery
And darkness has run in defeat
So come sing your new song
Of sweet liberation
In life bringing symphony
Oh in the life bringing symphony

Verse 2
Old rhythms of fear
Be silenced by Truth
And Courage
Bow lift up your head
This chorus is filled
With love for the message
And joy for the journey ahead

Bridge
Ears once deaf now hear it clear
Voiceless break out in a song
Joined with the King
In His vict'ry refrain
Our praise will awaken the dawn
Our praise will awaken the dawn
Our praise will awaken the dawn

“divine exchange” lyrics

Verse 1
On the cross hung my pain
And the guilt and the shame
Jesus bore my suffering
To the grave to make me free

Verse 2
Oh the blood that was shed
It now flows to cover sin
It washes clean and purifies
In its healing crimson tide

Chorus
Jesus He took my place
In divine exchange
Hallelujah grace is mine
Now I will live by faith
For the One who saves
He gave all to give me life

Verse 3
His Spirit is my present help
I'd be lost all by myself
He resurrects He sanctifies
He takes His power
And makes it mine

Bridge
I lay down all lesser things
For greater gain
He is alive inside of me
I lay down all lesser things
For greater gain
He is alive (inside of me)

“come to the cross” lyrics

Come follow Me
I'll show you the way
Leave all behind
I'll grant you
Treasure on high
Come follow Me
Leave all behind

Come to the cross
Where sinners are saved
Come to the cross
Where all debts are paid
Here at the cross
The Son of God gave His life
Here at the cross
Come to the cross

Verse 3
Come and behold
See where He laid
Come and behold
An empty grave
He is alive
There's victory
In Jesus Christ
Come and behold
He is alive

Bridge
With the Spirit's power
Dwelling now within
We will take our cross
We will follow Him
And tell the world
Of His cleansing blood
And that through the cross
We have overcome

Come to the cross
Come and be saved
Come to the cross
Your sins washed away
Fall on your knees before
The Lord God most High
Fall on your knees
Give up your life
Fall on your knees
Give up your life

Fire & Rain” lyrics

Verse 1
The sky is turning cold
As the winds begin to blow
The night the prophets
Told the clouds
To brew and gather close

Verse 2
The stories
Of the saints
Telling tales
Of dead bones raised
The intercessions
Stir and wake up
Fire and the rain

Verse 3
The bride is rising up
She's been waiting
Long enough
The lamps are lit
Let the trumps begin
Oh come
Lord Jesus, come

Chorus
Come Lord Jesus
Jesus come
Come Lord Jesus
Jesus come

Verse 4
Things are about to change
The Earth is ‘gonna shake
Cause every knee
Will hit the ground
And proclaim that Jesus reigns

Bridge
The fire and the rain
The fire and the rain
Are coming down, coming down
To beckon for the Day

Ending
Yeah, come Lord Jesus
Oh, we need you, need you
Oh, Jesus come
