"Who Needs The World"

the story and the study

A Few Words from the Writers

Kaleb came up to me and said, “Cliff, I have a song idea for you.” And then he says, “Who needs the world, I got Jesus.” I immediately knew I wanted to write and finish that song. Later that evening, we sat down in the dining room with with a few more folks and finished the song. I think it was an exhale at the end of a week, but this song has become such an anthem as we’ve played it live. It’s defiantly saying to the the enemy, “we don’t need the things you tell us we do, we have Jesus!” Thank God we do!!

-CLIFF PRESTON

I love this song because it so clearly states that there is nothing on earth that can compare to what we have in Jesus! I’m reminded of the parable in Matthew 13:44 where the man found the kingdom of Heaven, buried it in a field, and went and sold everything he had to purchase it. This is life with Jesus! If I have Jesus then I have all I need!

-JORDAN MERRITT

I love this song because it reminds me of the hymn, “I’d rather have Jesus.” There is a line in that hymn that says: “I’d rather have Jesus than anything that this world can afford.” That is so true! In this song, we say we have more than money, fame, cars, or clothes. We have the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Nothing can even come close to Him. Who needs the world when I’ve got Jesus?

who needs the world” lyrics

Verse 1
I won’t be caught dead hauling
Treasures that were never mine
I got my eyes set on heaven
I’m banking on a better prize
Don’t want to look back
And find It was all just a waste of time
I won’t be caught dead
I won’t be caught dead

Chorus 1
Who needs the world? I got Jesus!
Who needs the world? I got Jesus!
I don’t need money, fame, cars, or clothes
'Cause I got the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost!
Who needs the world?
I got Jesus! Oh, I got Jesus!
(Oh, oh, oh, oh!)

Verse 2
I meant what I said.
I found it, Something so clearly divine
Went down to the river, tasted
Something much sweeter than wine
When the Word splits the eastern sky
I'll come running, leave this life of mine
I meant what I said. I won’t be caught dead.

Bridge
From the eastern shore to Californ
And anywhere in between
He’s better than anything
You’ve ever dreamed!
