autumn devotional: god’s faithfulness in every season
“I feel the temperature changing”- Jade Lundgren (Miss You Like Crazy)
Every season of life presents new challenges and opportunities. The temperature changes, things get rearranged, our expectations get blown out of the water, and we have to start all over again… and again.
Starting over is part of growing up and getting good at being human. James says that we don’t even know what will happen tomorrow and that we ought to say, “If the Lord is willing, we will live and do this or that” (Jam 4:15). The “this or that’s” will always change, but God won’t. He is faithful in every season.
And that’s the beauty of beginning again— of going from one chapter of life to the next. Yes, it can be painful to mourn the loss of something we cherished in the past, to wish we could relive our most beautiful memories and experience them all over again, but then we might just miss the new thing that God is doing right now (Isa 43:19).
Unless a seed falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a seed, but when it is sown, it bears much fruit (Jn 12:24). That is the hope of resurrection life—of new beginnings and fresh starts… of new journeys and surprises, of all the good things God has in store for us. He makes everything beautiful in its time (Eccl 3:11).
